The dates and assignments for each photojournal are in this handout. Photojournals are expected to be uploadeded on time, as it will be VERY difficult to get these completed before the end of the semester if you procrastinate. This will be a part of your Final Exam Grade. Let Mrs. Farnum know should you have any questions. You may use your own photographs, photos from home/others or from magazines for these assignments, but sources must be cited. Make sure that you give the photographer credit for their work, and each photojournal should be a minimum of one paragraph, typed and single spaced. All of these will be uploaded to your Journal page, (with your created cover, created in Photoshop and saved/uploaded as a jpg) along with a copy of (or the original) photograph you are journaling about. (You may use the copier/scanner to scan images. Ask Mrs. F if you need help doing this!)
PJAssignment #1: Due Monday August 30th! Find a photograph that inspires a story. Write (at least) a one paragraph story about what you think is going on in the photograph. Be sure to guess at what happened the moment before the photograph was taken, and what might happen the moments after the snapshot.
PJAssignment #2: Due Friday, September 10th Find a photograph that has really effective COLOR. Write about the colors. How are the colors effective? Describe the colors. How are they used in the piece with other elements? How would the photograph be changed with a different color scheme?
PJAssignment #3: Due Friday September 24th Find a photograph that conveys movement. Write about the movement in the photo. How does this photograph convey movement? Why is movement an important principle in this particular photograph? What other elements and principles work with movement to create the final piece? Name one goal that you have for incorporating movement into your own work.
PJAssignment #4: Due Friday October 8th Find a photograph of a landscape that strikes you. Why did you choose that landscape? Have you been there? Do you want to go there? What are your favorite parts of the photograph? How does color affect the overall photo? How is the composition? Is there anything you would change? What would you do if you could be there right now? Where would you put yourself in the photo?
PJAssignment #5: Due Friday October 22nd Find a photograph that you think is creepy. Why do you think it is creepy? What elements and principles contribute to the creepiness of the photograph? Speculate on what will happen next in the photo? Would you hang this photograph in your house? Why or why not?
PJAssignment #6: Due Friday November 12th Find a photograph that makes you feel a powerful emotion. Write one page about how this photograph makes you feel. Do you think that the photograph would make others feel this way? Does it conjure up memories specific to your life? What elements and principles are used in the photo to convey this emotion?
PJAssignment #7: Due Monday November 29th Find a photograph of a portrait of someone you admire or respect. Who took the photograph? Why was the photograph taken? Do you think it's an accurate portrayal of what you know about the person? Do you learn anything new about the person? What is the mood of the photograph? Are props used and How? If you could shoot one picture of the person, what would it look like. Add a quick sketch.
PJAssignment #8: Due Friday December 3rd Find a photograph of your favorite season. How does this photograph represent your season? What aspects of the season make it your favorite? Are they represented in the photograph? What elements and principles are at work to make this an effective photograph? Why did you choose this particular photograph? Why did the photographer choose this moment to capture? Do you think that they were thinking about the season? Take a photo of spring and add it to this page.
PJAssignment #9: Due Friday Dec 10th Find two photographs of a building that you think have been taken effectively. Compare the photographs. Which photograph does a better job of showing the architecture at work in the building? What angle do you like better? Why? Compare at least five elements and principles in the photographs. Does this building mean anything to you? Why did you choose these particular photographs.
PJAssignment #10: Due Friday Dec 17th Find a photograph of one of your favorite products. Does this photograph do a good job of advertising the product? What elements and principles are at work? Do you think that the photograph you chose has been altered? If so, how? If not, why not? How do you thin k that the photograph could be improved? Take your own picture of this product and add it to this photojournal.
